How you prevent a fire
A well-functioning smoke detector is the most important equipment for saving lives in a fire. Fire extinguishers and ground fault circuit interrupters are other equipment that is good to have. Do not start dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and drying cabinets when you can fall asleep or leave home. The most important thing is never to leave a room with a burning candle or fall asleep from food on the stove or burning cigarettes!
Flammable goods Storage of flammable goods such as gasoline, solvents, gas cylinders, must not be done in the basement. In an apartment, a maximum of 5 liters of gas (type 2012) or a maximum of 10 liters of liquid may be stored.
Loose gas cylinders for diving or medical use may be stored in apartments and then in the hall and near the front door. There should be a sign on the inside and outside of the door frame that warns of gas cylinders.
Storage of mopeds and motorcycles Storage of mopeds and motorcycles may be done in bicycle and stroller rooms.
Think before
Think about what fire hazards may exist in your apartment. Also, think about what your home looks like and where each family member sleeps. Make a plan for how you will evacuate if a fire starts. Let the children participate in the planning. Feel free to draw an evacuation plan and put it up where you see it often. Make sure there is always at least one functioning smoke detector in the apartment.
Important to know about the stairwells
Since the stairwells and floors are evacuation routes and fire cells, nothing may be stored in the stairwells and on the floors for various reasons:
-
Risk of arson
-
Hinders evacuation and the work of firefighters, as visibility can be poor due to smoke, risk of stumbling and falling.
-
The fire can spread to the objects stored in the stairwells and floors, with increased smoke and heat as a result.
-
Prevents ambulance personnel from picking up sick people on stretchers and other transports.

Put put fire
If a fire breaks out in an apartment in a residential building, it is quite easy to extinguish the fire in an early stage if you have access to a suitable fire extinguisher and knowledge of how to use it. A 6 kg foam or powder fire extinguisher costs less than 500 kronor at e.g. Jula or Biltema, a cheap insurance! If the fire cannot be extinguished by the resident, the apartment should be evacuated immediately. It is important to close the doors (room and apartment doors) to prevent oxygen supply and spread of the fire.
Evacuation in case of fire If there is a fire in your own apartment and you cannot extinguish it, evacuate as quickly as possible and call 112. If there is a fire elsewhere in the property, stay in your apartment and wait for instructions from the fire department. If the stairwell is filled with smoke, the fire department’s ladders through windows and balconies are your evacuation route.
Never go out into a smoke-filled stairwell, the smoke kills Fire smoke is very toxic. If you have to pass through smoke-filled areas, crawl under the smoke by crawling on all fours and with your face as close to the floor as possible. It is also the coolest place.
Evacuation route at the back of the house Along the back of floor 1 there is a fire escape that runs along the entire house.
At Tulegatan 5 there is a metal gate that is primarily intended for the fire brigade to evacuate residents. It is important not to place objects along the fire escape in such a way that it blocks access during an evacuation.
The metal gate should be seen as an emergency exit and is not intended for daily use by residents of the association.
